The Sweet Benefits of Local Honey from Wimbledon Quarter’s Rooftop Farm

The Rooftop Farm Wimbledon is home to 4 apiaries, located on the roof of Wimbledon Quarter. Thanks to our beekeper Barnaby, a London-based beekeeping organisation dedicated to sustainable urban apiculture, our vibes are home to over 40,000 honeybees. Each year, our bees produce around 480 jars of delicious, golden, local honey; right here in the heart of SW19.

But beyond taste, there are plenty of reasons why choosing local honey is good for both you and the community.

A true taste of Wimbledon

The flavour of honey is shaped by the flowers bees visit. Our rooftop hives are surrounded by local gardens, parks, and green spaces, which means each jar of Wimbledon Quarter honey reflects the unique character of our neighbourhood. From lime trees to lavender, every spoonful is a snapshot of the season.

Natural Goodness & Health Benefits

For centuries, honey has been valued in traditional medicine. Local honey in particular is thought to help with seasonal allergies, as trace amounts of local pollen may support your body’s natural defences. Its antibacterial properties also make honey a time-tested remedy for easing coughs, calming sore throats, and supporting general wellbeing.

Unlike mass-produced alternatives, local honey is minimally processed. It retains natural enzymes, antioxidants, and trace elements that are often lost in commercial production, meaning it’s a natural alternative to your average supermarket honey.

Supporting Local Ecosystems

By keeping bees in urban environments, we’re encouraging pollination of plants, flowers, and trees across Wimbledon. This helps boost biodiversity and supports the health of our community’s green spaces, creating a ripple effect that benefits both people and wildlife.

Reducing Food Miles

Our rooftop honey hasn’t travelled thousands of miles to get to your kitchen shelf. By choosing local produce, you’re cutting down on unnecessary packaging and transport – a small but meaningful step toward reducing your carbon footprint.

Supporting Community Projects

By partnering with BeeUrban, we’re not only producing honey – we’re contributing to vital environmental education and community projects across London. Every jar is part of a wider mission to support sustainable urban apiculture.

Sweet, sustainable, and straight from our rooftop – The Rooftop Farm’s honey is a true taste of the community.
