You’re Invited To Wimbledon in Sporting History’s Exhibition: “The Greatest Story in Sports”

We are thrilled to host the first ever sporting audio visual exhibition on behalf of Wimbledon in Sporting History (WiSH) running from Saturday 28th June to Sunday 13 July 2025.

This free exhibition, titled “The Greatest Story in Sports,” celebrates Wimbledon’s rich sporting legacy through a captivating display of sights, sounds, and stories.

Visitors will journey through more than a century of sporting heritage, exploring how Wimbledon has shaped and inspired sports both locally and around the globe since the 1800s.

While football, speedway and greyhound racing take centre stage, the exhibition also shines a light on a wide range of other sports including tennis, cricket, rugby, hockey, golf, cross-country running and plenty more.

From rare memorabilia to immersive media, the exhibition will showcase an eclectic mix of:

  • Historic films and photographs
  • Artwork and press cuttings
  • Medals, trophies, and badges
  • Iconic sports shirts, programmes, bikes, boots, and balls

Throughout the exhibition, guest appearances from sporting figures and even special visits from the beloved Wombles will make this a truly family-friendly experience.

A Creative Call to Action: The New Sportsman Sign Art Competition

WiSH is also launching an all-ages art competition

In addition to the exhibition, WiSH is also launching an all-ages art competition held in collaboration with Wimbledon Library and inspired by the old “Sportsman” sign from the original stadium over 50 years ago. Artists are invited to reimagine the sign for today, reflecting the progress made in diversity, inclusion, and equality in sport.

Whether it’s hand-drawn or digitally designed, submissions should celebrate modern values—women in sport, disability access, and sport for all. Winning entries will be featured and receive special gifts, with the possibility of becoming part of future WiSH displays.
